Business Briefs

Price-fixing settlement: Reuters reports: "Tyson Foods has agreed to pay $82.5 million to settle a proposed class-action lawsuit brought by grocers and other businesses that accused the meat and poultry giant of conspiring to inflate U.S. beef prices by restricting supply." Maidencreek Township-based Redner's Markets is one of the plaintiffs that had "accused Tyson and several other major beef producers of conspiring to charge inflated prices for retail sale-ready consumer cuts or edible boxed beef between 2015 and 2022."

Warehouse deal: A Swedish private equity firm, EQT Real Estate, paid $121 million for an Upper Tulpehocken Township distribution center, according to county property records. The 84-acre, I-78 commerce center is located on Route 183. Core 5 Industrial Partners paid about $12 million to buy the farmland in 2021.

Maple Grove sale price: The International Hot Rod Association paid $30 million for several properties that make up Maple Grove Raceway in Brecknock Township, according to county property records. The sale of the dragway was announced last month, but its price was not. With a capacity of about 30,000, Maple Grove had been among the county's top tourist attractions and a historic venue for drag racing in the U.S.

ECHL contract: WFMZ reports that the ECHL hockey league and Professional Hockey Players' Association "have ratified an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement." The deal, which includes the Reading Royals, "ends a players strike that led to the postponement of 41 league games."

New shop: A clothing and toy store, Tav Retail, has opened on North Ninth Street in Reading, per an Instagram announcement.
