Dear Reader,
Welcome to political silly season.
In the final few weeks before a life-changing election, the antics are at an all-time high. Partisanship peaks. Campaigns and special interests will do or say almost anything to gain an edge. And bad information will be everywhere.
Now is the time to put up your guard, stay skeptical, and check your facts.
Before we go on, let me be clear: At Spotlight PA, we don't care about your politics, where you stand on a policy, or who will get your vote. Those are personal choices. We just want to make sure you know what's at stake based on facts and reality.
And for that, we at Spotlight PA have your back.
Here's a quick rundown of our unprecedented election coverage:
🗳️ First, we always recommend starting with our complete and transparent guide to how we cover elections, something we produce before every election.
🇺🇸 Visit our Election Center 2024. We’ve published voter guides to the candidates for state attorney general, auditor general, and treasurer (also available in Spanish); a guide to vetting legislative candidates, and guides to filling out mail ballots, voting as a college student, and serving as a poll worker.
✅ Try our interactive candidate match tool: Back by popular demand and expanded to new races, we've just published our interactive tools to help you identify the candidate most aligned with your views. You can check out the tool for attorney general, auditor general, and treasurer.
🛡️ Prepare for misinformation: We’ve published a series of Election 101 stories focused on areas that are frequently misunderstood, misconstrued, or tied to outright lies. Our series covers voting machines, voting by mail, poll watchers, e-pollbooks, recounts, how elections are administered, how state guidance works, and more.
🤖 Try our new Election Assistant: Have more questions about how Pennsylvania's 2024 election will work? Try our AI-powered Election Assistant, and read more about how we're developing this innovative service with precision and care.
Spotlight PA offers the most comprehensive coverage of Pennsylvania's pivotal races, and we're reaching more people than ever. For the first time this year, we developed a printed guide for newly registered voters and mailed it to more 80,000 people — introducing them to Spotlight PA and our trusted, nonpartisan resources.
We've already held a suite of election events, and we'll be hosting a free public forum with the candidates for state attorney general from 6:30-8p Oct. 23 in downtown Pittsburgh. Tickets are free but RSVPs are required. |
